I’m in the mood for praise
Chronology
Angelina Jolie and director Pablo Larraín discuss how they connected to the heartbreaking true story of Maria Callas, the world’s greatest opera singer and world-renowned opera singer. The third and final film in Pablo Larraín’s trilogy of female-led biographical films, called "Lady with Heels", following Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021). Our entire group was disappointed with what we saw
The storyline was paper thin for us, focusing on the latter part of her life, and most of the history of how the events are connected was left out. We would jump from one scene to the next with no clear connection between the sequences. The focus seemed to be on Jolie posing for us, rather taking away from the charm of the real Maria.
There was an emptiness in this version of Maria Callas
I get it – Angelina is great, but where was the spark? I never felt like I connected with the characters, and I didn’t feel like I fit in. At the end of the film, as the end credits roll, there are scenes of the real Maria Callas, full of personality and charisma that unfortunately weren’t portrayed in Jolie’s film.
Great costume designs, but that was me
