A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, acts as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camps), oversee the assembly of mining equipment, and drilling of the well site, especially in remote locations. They are also part of the repair team, problem solvers, and facilitators. As referenced on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode 44.24 (2022). For someone so focused on her goals, the inclusion of an emotionally unstable one-woman circus undermines the show’s purpose. Her character feels like a distraction from the central narrative and adds unnecessary chaos rather than supporting her journey. The portrayal doesn’t enhance the story, but rather seriously undermines her determination and focus. Similarly, the roles of his wife and daughter feel out of place in the series. The wife seems emotionally unpredictable, while the daughter seems to lack intellectual depth, rendering her contribution to the plot irrelevant. The portrayal of the daughter feels particularly shallow, as her character offers nothing more than a surface-level engagement that doesn’t add value to the story. Additionally, these characters are constantly jumping around in provocative clothing, seemingly for no reason other than to attract viewership, and feel out of sync with the tone of the series. Rather than enhancing the plot or character dynamics, this approach is a superficial tactic to grab attention. It’s a strange and unnecessary addition that detracts from the overall quality of the narrative.
