Observation Civic EP revolving around an industrial city, privately owned industrial property in New York. Global developers seek to transform the Waterfront Brooklyn complex into a “innovation district”, or what the New York Times called “Soho of Sunset Park”. Divergent roles are drawing combat lines between local, primarily Latin and Chinese immigrant communities, the City Council and the developers of the City of Industry. About decades, within the boundaries of a community in Brooklyn, a microcosm or American democracy appears. The emerging city throws light and process, illuminating systems and viewers, giving the seat the first row in the public and private areas where the city is shaped. With an extraordinary approach, the film explores the deep intersection of gentrification, climate crisis and real estate development, and asks how changes could occur from dialogue and collective actions in the world where money and similar outcomes are usum.
