MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy-drama that follows the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), an American Army veteran who finds herself at odds with her family due to the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her deceased best friend in the military. Despite the persistence of her VA counselor (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother (Gloria Reuben), and the lightheartedness of an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy and dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the pair isolated from the world. That is, until Merit’s estranged grandfather (Ed Harris), holed up in the family’s ancestral lake house, starts to get lost and needs the one thing he refuses to give her… help. At its core, this is a buddy movie about complicated friendships, a divided family, and the complicated ways we deal with grief.
